About us

We support and champion education and care services

Established in 1971, It Takes A Village is the national voice of community-based education and care services. It Takes A Village was formerly Community Child Care Association (CCC). We helped set up the very first community-owned services in Australia. Today, we continue to support and champion both community-based early childhood and outside school hours care (OSHC) services and the wider sector.

Building a strong sector is at the heart of what we do. We support and champion services, work with governments, and advocate for an Australia where every child who needs it has access to free, quality education and care.

Nearly 800 member services rely on us for professional advice and practical support. Here to help services transform vision into practice, we provide membership, expert professional development, coaching and consultancy across the sector.

We support long day care, OSHC, three-year-old and four-year-old kindergarten, pre-prep, family day care and occasional care educators, teachers, leaders, coordinators and directors.

Our focus is on building a sustainable community-based sector and an empowered, well-resourced workforce to deliver free and accessible quality education and care.

A founding force behind community-based services in Australia, we have helped shape education and care in this country for millions of children. Today we continue this work as the national peak for community-based and not-for-profit education and care services, the Victorian peak body for OSHC services, and the Victorian state branch of the National Outside School Hours Services Alliance (NOSHSA).

We work closely with governments to deliver evidence-informed reform and projects that change our sector for the better. This includes our role leading the Victorian Inclusion Agency, which provides inclusion support to every early learning and outside school hours care service in the state.

Our deep community connections and role as peak body make us a trusted sector leader and unwavering advocate for services, educators, children and families.
